Robbie MH & Kate Sala

Robbie MH & Kate Sala

Whilst these posts aren’t really anything to do with Lincolnshire or the surrounding area’s, I think it’s always interesting to know what has been taught at any linedance event that has taken place.

Gunton Hall in Lowestoft, Suffolk holds several mid-week Linedance breaks throughout the year.

Here are the dances that I know were taught at the event these past few days :-

Sweet Like Cola to ‘Sweet Like Cola’ by Lou Bega.
Choreographed by Francien Sittrop.

Ready To Rock to ‘Roll Out Of This Hole’ by Jools Holland & His Rhythm & Blues Orchestra (featuring Ruby Turner).
Choreographed by Kate Sala & Robbie McGowan Hickie.
** This dance was taught at the recent Linedancer Magazine Crystal Boot Awards in Blackpool. **

Like It Rough to ‘Like It Rough’ by Lady Gaga.
Choreographed by Lawrence Allen.

Calypso Mexico to ‘Calypso Mexico’ by Bouke.
Choreographed by Ria Vos.

Maggie Gallagher

Maggie Gallagher

Well, it’s been a fair while since I published what has been taught in the county. Here are the dances that I know were definitely taught at classes in Lincolnshire during January 2011.

I class a new teaching at a class as a dance that the instructor hasn’t taught at that class before, regardless of the age of the dance.

A Candle In The Dark (Pat Stott)
Bittersweet Memory (Ria Vos)
Blue Bayou (Peter Metelnick & Allison Biggs)
Calypso Mexico (Ria Vos)
Crazy Day Job (Gordon Elliott)
Dancing Tonight a.k.a. “The Daffodil Dance” (Robbie McGowan Hickie)
Hold My Hand (Neville Fitzgerald & Julie Harris)
Jig About (Maggie Gallagher)
Looking For A Girl (David Spencer)
Nightshift (Kath Dickens)
No Goodbyes  (“x2″) (Robbie McGowan Hickie)
Oklahoma Boogie (Kim Ray)
Sleeping Child (Maggie Gallagher)
Two Steps Over The Border (LDT Tucker)
Unpredictable (Robbie McGowan Hickie & Karl-Harry Winson)
Wrong Side Of The Road (Peter Metelnick & Allison Biggs)

At the time of posting all of the above dance scripts are available from the copperknob website, except for Dancing Tonight “The Daffodil Dance” by Robbie McGowan Hickie. This, I believe is due to be released imminently.

The name in brackets is the Choreographer. (“x2″) refers to the number of different classes that dance was taugh at.

Mundesley ‘HH’ Halloween Weekend Teaching’s

'Mad' Lizzie Clarke

'Mad' Lizzie Clarke

The Double ‘HH’ Promotions linedance weekend has just taken place at Mundesley in Norfolk.

The resident Choreographer for the weekend was ‘Mad’ Lizzie Clarke.

She taught several dances including :-

  • We Do – Choreographed by Justine Shuttleworth to “Things We Do” by Lorrie Morgan.
  • Everywhere I Go – Choreographed by Andrew & Sheila to “Everywhere I Go” by Chris De Burgh
  • John Wayne Walking – Choreographed by Allison Biggs to “John Wayne Walking Away” by Lari White

The dance “Everywhere I Go” is now starting to be taught at classes within the county. It seems very quick at first but once you master the steps, the dance doesn’t feel all that fast. 3 Restarts to contend with but the music helps you along with these. If you’re prepared to put in the effort, this dance is very rewarding.

Another newish dance that now seems to be beginning to take off is Messed Up In Memphis by Dee Musk.

Choreographed in May 2010, some of the linedance clubs in the county are now beginning to teach it at their classes.

Here’s a demonstration and walk through video of the dance.
